Jump to navigationJump to search

Man with a monster's face. Divinely inspired. Holds the last shard of a dead god. High horse. Losing his way.

Malachor was a hermit in the small village of Lucan in Darthuria. Circumstances forced him to flee the village with a few other Lucan villagers and his life of adventurer had begun. In 1356, Malachor had found himself as a holy man with his own secluded mountain home in Ashtol. Once he hears of Keiran's execution date, he'll gather his friends and allies and make a stand in the Darthurian capital once and for all.

In the scope of Third, Malachor is now becoming more and more important in the divine realms. While the majority of the game will be spent in the middle realm, he may reach out to the gods personally and they him.

History

Little was known about Malachor while he lived quietly in Lucan, and still not much is know about him except for the essentials. What the town of Lucan took for as a leper hermit, was actually a Pelorian cleric of inborn talent...and an Illithid.

Early Life

Like others of his kind, Malachor was born (if you could call it that) in an Illithid coven, in the depths of the Underdark. At that time he was known as Xillian. Malachor has never told anyone of this time living in the coven and probably for good reason. It was this time in his childhood that he was forced to live as an Illithid is expected to live...with upmost cruelty, dominating all other creatures, and always serving the will of the Elder Brain. He was taught the heritage of the Illithid and their goal of dominion over the whole world, surface and all.

But always there was a pain that Malachor felt as he was forced by his elders to kill and to eat, always a sickening feeling that he felt as he learned his race's heritage...their goals. As he became an adult and gained small measures of power and independence, he did whatever he could to undermine the system...even though all logic, everything that he'd been taught, went against this. And so, Malachor would secretly scare off potential prey before it was too late, he refused to continue his psionic training in dominion, and even attempted to free creatures already made into thralls.

It was the later that became his undoing. The high council of the elder brain easily noticed the missing thralls and knew it was during Malachor's watch that they had gone. He was called before the council and the elder brain itself for judgment. He was found guilty of blasphemy and treason against the coven and sentenced to exile. Malachor was cast out of the coven to die in the wilds of the underdark.

But somehow, He did not die. Somehow Malachor survived and found his way to the surface world. It is another trial he has never told anyone of. The first settlement Malachor came to was the small village of Lucan. He spent weeks observing the town...wishing to be part of it, but knowing that the villagers would kill him on sight if he revealed himself. It was then that Malachor hatched the idea of disguising himself as a leper hermit and live among the townsfolk. It was during this peaceful time that Malachor slowly began to connect with the light of the surface world and learned about Pelor from the local church.

Friends and Companions

Kyruske Rosseau

In Lucan, Malachor kept to himself for safety's sake and only frequented the chapel. He never saw Rosseau enter that chapel and only saw him hanging around the tavern. He herd others in the town openly call the man a drunk. And so that was all Malachor took the man for in the beginning.

That changed when Anna and Ralph were kidnapped. Malachor took it upon himself to find to two children and ended up revealing his face. Rosseau was the only one in that time that did not react with disgust. From then on, Malachor suspected Rosseau of being something far beyond a drunk...or even a war veteran.

When it came to light what Rosseau was, and that he needed to go to the Desolate North. Malachor understood the man's position. He had come to respect Rosseau and told him that after he found what he was seeking in the north, that he would always have the group to come back to.

The fighting between Donovan destroyed most hope for that though. And even now, Malachor worries about what really happened between the two, and what danger Rosseau might be in.

Rhiannon Mattson

In Lucan, Malachor had always watched Rhiannon, Nika, and Donovan grow up and play together. In many ways, he envies them for the childhood they had, and from that envy, he had come to care for the three of them. Even now, he still tries to protect the three, trying to perserve the innocence in them that he never had. Rhiannon is the one that has changed the least in Malachor's eyes and therefore he holds the strongest urge to protect.

He was secretly overjoyed when he unknowingly brought Melond back into Rhiannon's life, and secretly, a good portion of his disdain for Akmemnos comes from his constant attempts to whoo her. His feelings towards Rhiannon were strong enough that he warned her to even be careful around Donovan after his contact with a lower demon.

Nika Abernathy

Malachor holds the same need to protect Nika as he does for Rhiannon, but not in the same sense per say. Out of the three children, Malachor has ended up spending the most time with Nika and she has easily shown him how strong she is. Malachor is facinated by her druidic abilities and her ability to see the positive side of any situation. He is begining to realize that Nika can make it through anything that might come their way.

That being said, Malachor also finds Nika to be a bit rash. On many occasion, he has had to bail her out of her own rash behaviors, whether it be walking her to her room when she's stumbling drunk or apologizing to others for Nika's lack of manners.

Donovan Jonason

In Lucan, Malachor felt closest to Donovan out of the three children. Donovan had come closest to Malachor by stealing herbs from his garden, and Malachor had attempted to make friends in some way by overlooking the theft, even leaving herbs out for Donovan to take.

But as they have traveled, Malachor feels that he has failed Donovan the most. Through everything that has happened in their travels and with Rosseau, Malachor can sense the innocence that he sought to protect in Donovan has died. In many ways, Malachor blames himself. Every time Donovan taunts Malachor's faith or does something that shows a dark nature, Malachor wonders if he could have done something differently to have shielded Donovan from the anger that has taken root in him.

The final straw was when Donovan used one of Caro's books to summon a lower demon. Malachor was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to shield Donovan from the demon's evil, but Donovan refused for such a deal to be made. Malachor has no idea what happened then between the demon and Donovan, but he can only assume that Donovan is lost...and for that Malachor blames himself for not being more involved with the boy

Akmemnos

Akmemnos is by far the person Malachor likes least. After his betrayal and rejoining of the party, Malachor was willing to forgive and forget, but now he is beginning to think that was a mistake.

Malachor does not like how Akmemnos has been affecting Rhiannon or Donovan. If he wasn't blaming himself for Donovan's contact with a demon, he'd be blaming Akmemnos, who did nothing to stop the boy. As the two travel, Malachor is begining to wonder if Akmemnos's devotion to Avandra is really true, or just another ruse. For now, there hasn't been anything substantial enough for Malachor to act on such feelings, but he is certainly watchful around the tiefling.

Abilities

Malachor can manifest divine powers of the god Pelor without any of the acidemic training that a normal cleric would have to undertake. Malachor has a natural connection to his god not through the readings of litanies or performing rituals, but purely through meditation and direct prayer. This slightly changes the nature of his clerical powers. Instead of being radiant powers that inflick wounds upon someone, Malachor's divine abilities hardly if ever inflict damage, and only work to heal or scare off opponents. To mirror his abilities, Malachor carries a large effigy of Pelor that functions as both a holy symbol and shield.

Malachor still has his psionic heritage from his time in an illithid coven, but he loaths to use such abilities. The only power he has ever used in his time of the surface has been a pisionic stunning blast...and even then only in emergencies. If he had any other more powerful abilities, he is obviously repressing them.

Malachor's time in exile in the underdark has left him skilled in the ways of survival and his ability to sense danger or read into a situation comes in handy while traveling around on the surface as well.

Malachor is adequatly read in history, realigion and the arcane, though Donovan is obviously better at the task. Malachor's natural ability to heal is far supieror to the rest of the party, except for Nika, who also seems to have a nack for it as well. When it comes to social graces, Malachor's knowledge of manners and calm, friendly demeanor let him move easily through the surface world, had it not been for being seen as an Illithid made him a fugitive.
