Jareth Belmont (born January 12, 1226) is a psionic human living in Darthura City, in Darthuria. He was born as the heir to the Knightlord's blade in Silvercoast, but during his lavish lifestyle in his mid twenties, he contracted vampirism. After realizing he could not re-integrate into Darthurian society as a vampire, he became destructive. He was chosen by the Society to join their ranks as a speaker for them. He began to ochestrate the Society's campaign within Darthuria, recruiting other destructive people into their ranks. After clashing with the party in Simple and again in Lost, he was killed by Zane Loyallar. Malachor used his clerical abilities to bring him back to life and in doing so, rid Jareth of his unlife. Now he lives with foggy memories of his life before and his uncertainty about his place in the coming war.

History

Jareth was born in 1226 in Silvercoast, the farmost western city of Darthuria. He was born in the lap of nobility, as his father Davyn Belmont, the Knightlord of Silvercoast. His birth was celebrated at the time for the Knightlord finally had a son to carry the blade.

When Jareth was 29, he was in the throes of a decadent lifestyle, despite being married with one child. The time when he was to take the blade and become Knightlord was soon and this amount of responsibility made him extremely anxious. In his own way, he dealt with this anxiety by living out the typical noble son life: booze, sex, and parties. He created a reputation for himself in Silvercoast (and even in Moorside, if the stories of hijacking a Royal Brig is true) for being a drunkard, rash, rude, and taking both men and women to his bed.

One night, he met a woman in Altonia and predictably, spent the night with her. However, he was unaware that he became involved with an elder vampire, who turned him that same night. When she disappeared the following morning, Jareth was left to deal with the coming change alone, not ever entirely understanding what was happening to him. He returned to Silvercoast to rest, hoping to fend off whatever infection he had. After his first drawing, he realized what he had become. He made this public however, not wanting to let go of the opportunity of being Knightlord. He petitioned his father and his king, attempting to placate them with his status as a pacifist vampire. After the King refused to let a vampire into the ranks of the Council.

Realizing that his claim to the blade had been lost, Belmont went into a frenzy, murdering his wife and draining her of her blood. When a castle knight intervened, Belmont fled into the city and then, into greater Darthuria.

His life as a vampire from that point is largely unknown, even to him. He drank, carroused, took women and men, like before, but his nights would always end in bloodshed, regardless of the need to feed.

The Society was watching though. His cleverness and violence was appealing to them and his noble upbringing guaranteed that he would make the perfect spokesman for the Society's Darthurian campaign. When invited, Jareth immediately accepted for two reasons: his longing to be accepted into something greater than himself and his burning sense of revenge against the country that cast him away.

As a new member of the Society, he began to recruit and scout for talented people that could best serve the organization's aims in the country. He established a home base in Ashtol, an isolated community of dwarves. This all came to an end in 1355, when he discovered that a few villagers from nearby Lucan had personally taken down Warlord Kursa, an ettin slaver to the north of Ashtol. He captured William Welljinx, the master of the young mage in the party. Extending a challenge to these new adventurers, he thought to make short work of them and continue on his way. He even planted a double agent within their ranks. In the end, Belmont was defeated, his friends slain, and Ashtol lost.

When the party disbanded, some of them moved on to Urathear, an empire in the southwest. Jareth knew that Urathear was Armand's responsibility, but couldn't help himself as he too left for Urathear to assist the Dragon. However, once he realized the goals of the Society in Urathear, Jareth decided it would be best to save this world instead of destroying it (his favorite rum is made there, for gods' sake). He joined the ranks of the party and helped them turn the tide against the Society.

In the end, Armand succeeded in bringing back the Titan and installing a scornful brother as Dragon King of Urathear. The Uratheric Six fled the Empire and made their way back to Darthuria. On board, Jareth was attacked and killed by Zane. Only by Malachor's powers was he brought back, but without the stain of vampirism and memories of the terrible things he's done. In Darthuria, Jareth abandoned the party and made his own way, trying to process his old life and his new one.
